Frequently Asked Questions About Counseling in Melville and Long Island NY

Finding the right therapist can feel difficult. It’s a big decision! You may still have some questions about how therapy works so you can make sure you find the right fit.

  • I offer both in person psychotherapy sessions in my office in Melville, or telehealth counseling. I use a HIPAA compliant platform for video sessions, which you can connect to via most devices (phone, tablet or laptop)

  • The initial session is 60 minutes, and weekly sessions are 50 minutes

  • I spend the first few sessions really getting to know you, your history, and the issues you want to work on as well as where you tend to get stuck. By the third or fourth session we will re-evaluate and confirm our fit, and get specific about your priorities and goals for how you can get what you need and want.

  • I have found, and research supports, that weekly counseling sessions are the most effective for clients to progress towards their goals. Psychotherapy is a commitment and investment of time, effort and finances. We will set a specific time to meet each week, and that will be our reoccurring weekly appointment.

  • There are many factors that contribute to length of treatment, which can make it difficult to predict. Beyond the first few sessions, how many sessions you need depends on you. Some problems are more complex than others and take more time. Some people do lots of work on their own in between sessions and may need fewer sessions before they feel confident in their new skills and ability to handle their problems without the support of a psychotherapist. I will help you track your progress and when you are ready, we will celebrate together and give you tips for how to maintain what you’ve achieved.

  • Weekly sessions are $250 per session. Initial sessions and 60 minute sessions are $300.

  • I am not contracted with any insurance companies directly. I offer a Superbill (invoice for insurance reimbursement), which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have Out-of-Network benefits (Most PPO plans offer out of network benefits. Please call your insurance to verify).

  • I see clients Mondays through Thursdays at variable hours in order to provide flexibility for different schedules. I currently have a few limited openings for new clients.

  • I help adults who are struggling with anxiety and/or depression and feel stuck in a major area of their life, find their way forward. Many of my clients had a difficult or emotionally immature parent or parents growing up, and are high functioning in one or some areas of their life such as work, and are stuck and struggling in other areas, such as personal relationships. Many struggle to know their own needs and tend to be more focused on others emotions and needs.

  • My clients often experience a reduction in their anxiety, an increase in hopefulness, an ability to take action more regularly, and overall more in command of their thoughts, emotions and behaviors. They generally feel more at choice rather than reactive, and at the end of therapy, feel at peace with themselves and confident that they can navigate life on their own terms.

I know it can feel like a big step to call a counselor, but I’ll make it easy. We’ll spend 15-minutes on the phone and I’ll let you know how or if I can help. If I am not the right person, I’ll do my best to get you to the right person.
